
Why Your IR Lamps Are Actually Eating Your Profits
If you’re in PET blowing or thermoforming, you already know the drill. Energy is the one cost that always seems to be creeping up on you. When people talk about “high-end” infrared lamps, they usually just mean a fancy brand name. But in the real world, that doesn’t matter. What actually matters is how the heat hits the plastic.
Stop heating the room
Here is the thing: most shops use generic lamps that just bleed heat everywhere. You end up warming up the entire factory floor instead of the actual product. It’s a waste. We do things differently. Our tubes are designed to focus the energy exactly where the polymer needs it. By tightening that emission spectrum, you stop paying to heat the air and start putting that energy into the preform. Less power pull. Better margins. It’s that simple.
Let’s talk hardware
We use high-purity quartz and halogen gas fills. Why? Because it lets us push the thermal limits without the filament just giving up and burning out. Depending on your setup, you’re probably looking at 230V or 400V. That choice changes everything about your wiring and how much current you’re pulling. If you go with a 400V high-wattage tube, you get massive heat density in a much smaller space. This is great because you can actually shrink your oven size. But be careful. If you cram that much heat into a small area without the right cooling fans, you’ll cook your reflectors and kill your lamps way faster than you should.
Making it work in your shop
Nobody wants to spend a weekend rewiring an entire rack. That’s why we stick with R7s and Sk15 connectors. They just slide right in. But the real secret is in the coating. We use specialized coatings that shift the wavelength so the heat sinks deeper into the plastic. This means your pre-heating cycles get shorter. And when your cycles are shorter, you’re pushing more parts per hour. When you look at it that way, the technical specs of a lamp aren’t just numbers—they’re the difference between a mediocre month and a great one.
