
Let’s talk about the 14106Z/9 Halogen Lamp
If you’re dealing with high-intensity thermal processing, you know the drill: you need heat, and you need it now. That’s exactly why we built the 14106Z/9. It’s a shortwave infrared heater designed to hit things hard and fast.
The nitty-gritty on heat
Here is how it actually works. We’ve tuned the voltage and wattage so the tungsten filament gets hot enough to pump out that shortwave emission you’re looking for. And the secret sauce? The halogen cycle. It stops the tungsten from gunking up the inside of the quartz wall. That means your tube stays clear and the heat stays consistent for a lot longer. Because it’s so powerful, the response is almost instant. You can flick the heat on and off without waiting around for some heavy element to slowly warm up. It’s snappy. But a word of warning: this much energy is tough on your reflectors. If they’re dirty or pitted, you’re basically throwing heat away instead of pushing it into your workpiece.Keep those reflectors clean.
Fitting it into your setup
We used high-purity quartz for the envelope because, frankly, the internal temps are brutal. As for the install, we kept it simple. It uses standard industrial connectors—usually R7s or those slide-in mounts—so you can just pop a new one in without having to rewire your entire oven. If you’re running PET blowing or curing arrays, this should slide right in.
Where this actually lives
You’ll mostly see these in PET bottle blowing machines or plastic welding lines. The shortwave radiation sinks into the plastic fast, softening the material in a matter of seconds so you can get to the molding. Just one thing: these things gethot. Really hot. Make sure your cooling fans are actually up to the task. If the ends of the lamp overheat because the air isn’t moving, the seals will give out and the lamp will burn out way too soon. Also, keep those terminals clean and tight. You don’t want to deal with arcing.
