It’s all about that short-wave infrared punch that gets your materials up to temp without wasting time. The Power Side of Things At 400mm, we’ve found a sweet spot. It’s enough surface area to cover what you need, but concentrated enough to actually move the needle on your cycle times. Now, a word of caution. These things can put out a massive amount of heat. If you go with a high-wattage setup, just make sure your cooling system can actually keep up. If the housing gets too hot, it’ll warp. And nobody wants to deal with a warped machine on a Tuesday morning. Why “Ruby”? You’ll see these called “ruby” lamps because of the special coating on the quartz. Here is the trick: standard quartz lets most of the heat just fly right through. The ruby layer acts like a mirror, bouncing a good chunk of that energy back toward your target. It means you get the heat you need without having to crank the power to the max. Plus, we use high-purity quartz so the tubes don’t snap when they go from cold to scorching in a heartbeat. Getting Them Installed We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements. They usually use R7s or spring-loaded terminals, which keep the connection tight. Keep an eye on those connectors. If they’re loose, you’ll get arcing, and your end caps will burn out way faster than they should. One last tip:be gentle with the glass. Even a tiny bend in your mounting bracket can create a stress point. When the lamp hits a heat spike, that’s where it’ll crack. Also, remember that these are built for intensity, not for idling. If you run them at 100% all the time without any modulation, you’re just eating away at the life of the filament. Give them some breathing room, and they’ll last a lot longer.
