Getting the heat right
When you’re setting up a heater for PET blowing or shrink wrapping, you can’t just throw “heat” at the problem. It’s more surgical than that. You need the exact wattage and voltage to hit that sweet spot—the glass transition temperature—without accidentally melting your material into a puddle. We use high-purity quartz glass for the halogen filament. Why? Because it lets short-wave radiation punch through the plastic much faster than the long-wave stuff. To keep things from burning out, we use R7s or Sk15 connectors. These aren’t your basic off-the-shelf plugs. They’re built to breathe—expanding and contracting as the temperature spikes and drops during rapid cycles. One heads-up, though: high-wattage tubes put off a ton of ambient heat. If you’re dropping these into an old oven, check your cooling fans first. You don’t want to be tripping your thermal breakers halfway through a shift.
